Fencing in the Final Quarter of 2025

Rising Competitive Momentum and Continuous Preparation Expanding the Scope of Achievement

Fencing at Sharjah Women’s Sports Club continued to strengthen its strong presence on the local scene during the final quarter of 2025, within a phase defined by the integration of competitive participation with structured technical preparation and a clearly articulated technical vision.

This phase reflected a tangible rise in athlete readiness, combining active participation in official championships with sustained investment in high-quality preparation. It formed part of a long-term pathway built on strategic planning, continuous development, and consistent visibility on the podium.

October: Competitive Results Confirm Growing Readiness

October witnessed a strong showing by the Club’s fencing team at the UAE Fencing Cup, contested in both the Senior and Under-17 categories. The championships were held on October 4 and 5 at Mazhar Sports Hall in Dubai, with participation from leading local clubs.

In the Senior category, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club fencers asserted their presence across all weapons. Sheikha Al Zaabi claimed gold in épée, followed by Zainab Al Hosani with silver, while Fajr Al Marzouqi secured bronze. In foil, Habiba Mustafa earned a silver medal, while sabre events saw Maryam Al Dughaydi capture gold, Liyan Thabet take silver, and Mahra Abdullah add a bronze—bringing the Club’s senior tally to seven medals.

In the Under-17 competition, the team continued its strong performance with 16 participating athletes. Jouri Al Ali claimed bronze in épée, Dana Al Shamsi secured bronze in foil, while sabre events added a silver through Shamma Al Suwaidi and a bronze by Al Anoud Al Falasi, confirming the continuity of excellence across age categories.

Reflecting on these results, Balqees Al Shehhi ,Head of Technical Analysis and Follow-up Unit at Sharjah Women’s Sports, noted that the medal haul reflects a clear upward trajectory in performance. She emphasized that the integrated technical work between coaching and administrative teams has contributed to technical stability and strengthened the athletes’ ability to compete confidently across all categories.

December: International Training Camp Deepens Technical Foundation

Beyond competition results, December represented a pivotal stage in the preparation pathway. From December 23 to 29, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club hosted an international fencing training camp at the Sharjah Women’s Sports Olympic Center. The camp brought together teams from Greece and Türkiye, along with athletes from Egypt, and included 18 fencers from the Club, supported by international coaches from Egypt, Greece, and Türkiye.

Led by Sami El Sayed, Scientific Advisor for Performance Development at the Sharjah Women’s Sports, the camp delivered an intensive technical program focused on tactical refinement and increasing the tempo of daily bouts. This environment enabled the athletes to engage directly with diverse fencing styles and enhanced their decision-making under pressure in a high-level competitive setting.

The camp concluded with an internal tournament involving the participating teams, serving as a practical evaluation of the training outcomes. This competitive finale transformed training loads into a realistic match environment, allowing athletes to apply newly acquired technical and mental skills, and reinforcing the camp’s value as a comprehensive preparation tool that extends beyond training into applied competition.

One Integrated System, One Goal: Sustainability

This quarter reflects a clear philosophy adopted by Sharjah Women’s Sports and its clubs—one that views achievement not as the product of a single competition, but as the result of a long-term developmental process. A process that begins with planning, advances through specialized training, is tested in competition, and continuously refined through camps and ongoing evaluation.
