Official visits opening new horizons for partnership in advancing women’s sport
Within a strategic framework that reflects strong institutional awareness of the importance of early and structured coordination, Sharjah Women’s Sports recently welcomed a series of official visits from several national sports federations. These visits were initiated by the Organization following the formation of new boards of directors after the federations’ recent electoral cycles.
The initiative forms part of SWS’ commitment to renewing communication channels with sports federations, introducing them to its strategic vision and integrated approach to developing women’s sport, and exploring areas of cooperation that support the sustainability of sports development while enhancing both technical and administrative performance.
A Unified Coordination Framework
The federations’ visits were conducted within a unified coordination framework adopted by the organization, designed to present its strategic direction, outline the operational methodologies of its specialized centers, and identify opportunities for collaboration aligned with the technical requirements and characteristics of each sport.
During these visits, federation representatives were introduced to SWS’ approach to athletic performance development, the role of mental preparation programs and scientific research in supporting athletes, and the future initiatives planned for its affiliated clubs. Together, these elements reflect an integrated system that brings technical, research-driven, and administrative components into one cohesive model.
Fencing: A Partnership Grounded in Scientific Development
Led by H.E. Sheikh Engineer Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board, the UAE Fencing Federation’s Board of Directors held an in-depth meeting at the Scientific Research and Sports Development Center, with the participation of the SWS’ senior leadership and specialized technical and scientific teams.
The meeting included a comprehensive presentation of the Organization’s strategic plan, alongside discussions on potential areas of collaboration to advance women’s fencing through applied scientific research, mental preparation, and specialized technical support. This approach aligns with the evolving demands of high-performance sport and aims to strengthen the presence of women’s fencing at both national and international levels.
Basketball: Technical and Administrative Integration to Support Women’s Sport
The visit of the UAE Basketball Federation, chaired by Abdulatif Nasser Al Fardan, included a formal meeting and an introductory tour, during which both parties discussed joint proposals to advance women’s basketball and exchanged perspectives on cooperation across technical, administrative, and developmental domains.
The discussions underscored the importance of building on existing experiences and unifying efforts between SWS and the Federation to expand participation, enhance competitiveness, and promote sports awareness—aligned with the UAE’s broader vision for empowering women across the sports sector.
Athletics: Expanding the Scope of Coordination
The third visit, conducted by the UAE Athletics Federation, included a tour of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Olympic Center, a review of the Organization’s strategic plans, and an overview of the sports facilities currently under development. This visit highlighted the expanding scope of institutional coordination and the diversity of potential collaboration areas serving both individual and team sports.
Sustainable Partnerships Guided by a National Vision
Collectively, these visits reflect SWS’ commitment to its central role in building effective, forward-looking partnerships with sports federations—partnerships rooted in strategic planning, role integration, and knowledge exchange, and aimed at establishing a progressive institutional model for the development of women’s sport.
They also reaffirm that the post-election phase of sports federations represents a genuine opportunity to recalibrate cooperation pathways and launch deeper, more sustainable joint initiatives—initiatives that serve athletes and communities alike and support the continued advancement of Emirati women’s sport with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
