As part of its continued commitment to diversifying sports programs and widening participation among younger age groups, Sharjah Women’s Sports has launched its first-ever Winter Tennis Camp for children. The initiative adopts an investment-focused approach that places the child at the center of the sport experience, creating a safe and engaging environment where learning, enjoyment, and discipline naturally intersect.
Rather than positioning the camp as a competitive pathway or a professional track, the program is designed as an introductory experience that welcomes children into the world of tennis through an accessible and engaging approach. The focus lies on developing fundamental movement skills, balance, and coordination, while nurturing an early connection with sport in an atmosphere that encourages exploration and participation without pressure.
The camp was held from 8 to 25 December 2025, running from Monday to Thursday at the tennis court of Sharjah Women’s Sports Club – Al Qalaia branch, during the morning hours from 9:00 to 11:00. This schedule was carefully structured to suit children’s daily routines and energy levels. Targeting boys and girls aged 6 to 12, participants were grouped according to age to ensure that each child received an experience aligned with their developmental stage.
Supervised by a specialized coaching team, the camp was led by two certified tennis coaches who implemented a daily training plan tailored specifically for children. Each session began with warm-up activities and movement-based exercises, followed by simplified introductions to tennis fundamentals, including racket handling, on-court movement, and physical balance. Training also incorporated skill-based drills using child-friendly equipment, alongside mini-games and group activities that foster teamwork. Scheduled breaks with healthy snacks were included to maintain energy and focus throughout the sessions.
The impact of the camp extended beyond physical development, addressing personal and educational dimensions as well. The program aimed to enhance motor skills, build self-confidence, and instill values such as discipline, commitment, and teamwork. At the same time, it introduced children to a new sport that may serve as a gateway to joining the regular sports packages offered by the Organization’s affiliated clubs in the future.
On the organizational front, SWS ensured a comprehensive framework that prioritized children’s safety and parents’ peace of mind. This included a clear daily drop-off and pick-up system, continuous supervision on court, full adherence to approved safety and privacy policies, and daily monitoring of attendance and individual progress.
As the first winter tennis camp of its kind organized by Sharjah Women’s Sports in this specialized format, the initiative serves as a pilot model for future tennis programs for children, whether through seasonal camps or structured training pathways. It also reflects SWS’ broader commitment to delivering innovative sports initiatives that support children, families, and the wider community—affirming that investing in early beginnings is the most effective way to build a healthy, lasting relationship with sport.
