SWS and Emirates American School Sign MoU to Advance School Sports
Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) and the Emirates American School have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening sports and educational collaboration, enhancing school sports programs, and empowering students through specialized sports initiatives.
The agreement was signed by Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of SWS, and Mr. Amol Vidhya, Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Global Schools Group , reaffirming their shared commitment to integrating sports into education and fostering a culture of physical activity among students.
Expanding the Scope of School Sport
The MoU aims to broaden sports participation, introduce a diverse range of athletic activities, and provide students with opportunities to discover and develop their talents. It also seeks to embed physical activity into daily life, recognizing its role in promoting physical and mental well-being while shaping a balanced and resilient generation.
Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud emphasized that this partnership represents a significant step toward integrating sports into education, noting that school sports foster flexibility, enhance fitness levels, and instill lifelong health awareness.
"We believe that sports play a vital role in building well-rounded individuals, giving young girls the opportunity to develop both physically and mentally in a supportive environment."
Moza Al Shamsi, Director of SWS, underscored the importance of embedding a culture of physical activity among students, ensuring they grow into healthy, high-achieving individuals. She added that sports success goes beyond physical fitness, encompassing nutrition awareness, mental skills development, and injury prevention through modern training techniques. SWS will provide specialized workshops in these areas to support student-athletes and enhance their performance.
A Holistic Approach to Physical and Mental Well-Being
Amol Vidhya highlighted the essential role of sports in fostering balanced personality development and improving children's overall health, stating: "Physical health directly impacts mental and emotional well-being. Experience has shown that physically active children are more balanced and focused on other aspects of life. Sports should not be seen as an extracurricular activity but as a core component of any educational institution—benefiting students, teachers, and administrative staff alike, while creating a more dynamic and productive learning environment."
Dr. Samiksha Chaturvedi, Principal of Emirates American School, emphasized the importance of encouraging young girls to engage in sports, stating: "Every girl will one day lead her family, shaping its values and lifestyle. By instilling a culture of fitness and health-consciousness, we are not only empowering young women but also contributing to the development of a healthier, more sustainable society."
Comprehensive Programs Across All Academic Levels
The MoU includes specialized sports programs for all educational stages, incorporating both individual and team sports while providing a structured pathway for students aspiring to pursue sports at a competitive level.
To ensure the effectiveness of the initiative, a joint committee will monitor its implementation, participation rates, and overall impact on student fitness and sports achievements.
The agreement is set for two years, with an option for renewal, allowing both parties to expand programs and enhance collaboration in the future.
This partnership reinforces SWS’ vision of developing women’s sports, preparing young athletes for success, and establishing school sports as a key pillar in building a well-rounded, active, and health-conscious society.
