Vice President’s Cup for Athletics: SWSC Secures Dual Victory in Junior and Senior Categories
The Vice President’s Cup for Athletics, held on February 22-23, 2025, at Khorfakkan Club For The Disabled, witnessed intense competition between Sharjah Women’s Sports Club (SWSC) and Abu Dhabi Athletics Club. The tournament showcased remarkable performances, with SWSC athletes demonstrating exceptional technical and physical abilities, ultimately securing first place in both the Junior and Senior Women’s categories.
Sharjah Women’s Sports Excels in the Junior Category
The junior events saw Samar Saleh Al Saadi claim gold in long jump, followed by Shahd Rashid with silver and Reem Mohammed Al Buduwai with bronze, highlighting the high level of competition among the athletes.
In the javelin throw, Alyazia Tariq Abdul Salam delivered an outstanding performance, earning gold, while Maitha Jumaa Al Dhahnahli secured silver, and Sheikha Fahd Al Mazmi took bronze.
The shot put event saw Mariam Al Mazmi take gold, with Raya Moamen Al Dhannhani securing silver, and Hanan Ibrahim Al Suwaidi earning bronze.
In the discus throw, Raya Moamen Saeed Al Dhannhani continued her success with silver, followed by Mahra Saeed Al Ketbi with bronze.
The sprint events saw Alya Khalid Al Ali claim silver in the 100m, with Alya Khalid Saeed Al Shawari securing bronze. In the 200m, Sara Fahd Abdullah earned silver, while Fatma Jassim Ahli finished with bronze.
The relay team, consisting of Sara Fahd Abdullah, Alya Al Muhairi, Alya Khalid Saeed, and Alya Khalid Al Ali, secured gold, further strengthening the team’s dominance.
In the hammer throw, Sheikha Fahd earned bronze, rounding off the junior category with another strong result.
Outstanding Achievements in the Senior Category
In the senior events, Abeer Al Baloushi took gold in long jump, with Sara Khalifa Al Naqbi winning silver, and Dina Garsli securing bronze, reflecting the depth of talent within the team.
The 100m sprint saw Fatma Al Baloushi claim gold, while Abeer Al Baloushi finished with silver, adding another success to the team’s sprinting record.
The 4×100m relay team, featuring Fatma Al Baloushi, Mahra Abdul Rahim, Fatma Khalil, and Abeer Al Baloushi, delivered an outstanding performance, securing gold and reinforcing the team’s competitive edge.
In the 100m hurdles, Mahra Abdul Rahim took gold, further establishing her dominance in the event. The 200m race saw Fatma Al Baloushi add another gold, with Mahra Abdul Rahim earning silver, marking another milestone in the team’s achievements.
Coaching Reflections and Future Aspirations
Hind Al Kabawi, Technical Director of Athletics at SWS, expressed pride in the team’s double victory, stating: "Winning the Vice President’s Cup in both the Junior and Senior categories is a reflection of the hard work and dedication the athletes have shown in training. Our focus remains on integrated training programs that develop physical, technical, and mental skills, ensuring sustained excellence in both national and international competitions."
Walid Abdel Latif Saber, specialist coach in pole vault and jumps, highlighted the technical improvements observed during the tournament, saying: “The results in the jumping events reflect the detailed technical work we have put into training. We continuously focus on precision and execution under pressure, and today’s performances proved the progress and adaptability of our athletes. We are committed to further refining their abilities and aiming for even greater success."

The Vice President’s Cup for Athletics concluded with Sharjah Women’s Sports Club securing the championship in both the Junior and Senior categories, celebrating another milestone in the team’s journey. The event underscored the importance of advancing women’s athletics in the UAE, reinforcing efforts to empower female athletes, support their professional development, and solidify their presence in national and international sports arenas.
