SWSC Fencers Win 9 Medals at the Federation Fencing Championship for U11, U15, and U20 Categories
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club athletes continued their standout performances at the Federation Fencing Championship, held over two days on April 19 and 20 at Al Mizhar Sports Club in Dubai. Competing in the U11, U15, and U20 age groups, the club’s fencers secured a total of nine medals, reaffirming their growing presence on the national stage.
On the first day of the championship, the club’s fencers competed in the U11 and U15 categories. In the U15 group, Shamma Hamid Al Suwaidi claimed silver in sabre, while Mahra Yaqub Al Zarouni and Shamma Al Muhairi earned bronze in sabre and foil respectively. In the U11 category, Maitha Al Marzouqi delivered a commanding performance to win gold in sabre. Touleen Mohsen took silver in foil, and Noura Al Ketbi added a bronze in sabre.
The second day featured U20 competitions, where Habiba Mohamed claimed gold in foil following a series of confident victories. Lamar Hussein Al Nahla secured silver in épée after her most focused and disciplined performance to date, while Afraa Al Baloushi earned bronze in sabre, adding to the club’s impressive tally.
The event drew participation from eight fencers representing Sharjah Women’s Sports Club and four from Khorfakkan Women’s Sports Club on the first day, with five from Sharjah and two from Khorfakkan on the second day—underscoring the Organisation’s continued investment across all age groups.
Hassan Al Zowari, Technical Director and coach of foil and épée, praised the athletes’ steady development, highlighting the maturity and composure shown by the team. He noted that Touleen Mohsen delivered an excellent comeback performance in foil, and Shamma Al Muhairi earned her first-ever official competition medal—a bronze in U15 foil. He also emphasized Habiba Mohamed’s composed gold-medal performance and Lamar Hussein Al Nahla’s strategic improvement and silver in épée, describing them as promising signs for the future.
Coach Ibrahim Souissi, who leads the sabre team, echoed the praise, particularly for the discipline and cohesion among the U11 competitors. He remarked that Maitha Al Marzouqi and Noura Al Ketbi not only medaled but also showed strong synergy and focus. Afraa Al Baloushi’s bronze in U20 sabre was noted for its consistency, while Shamma Al Suwaidi’s silver and Mahra Al Zarouni’s bronze in U15 demonstrated growing technical maturity.
These results reflect the club’s long-term vision to nurture homegrown talent through structured, competitive national tournaments. SWSC remains committed to developing a new generation of female athletes who can proudly represent the UAE on the international stage with professionalism and confidence.
