SWSC’s Fencing Team Concludes Season at the Top of the National Rankings
As the curtain falls on the 2024–2025 sports season, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s fencing team has secured its place at the top of the national rankings—a result that reflects a year of strategic planning and outstanding performance. The club’s fencers claimed the top three spots in the national épée rankings, with Afrodit Ahmad, Zainab Al Hosani, and Al Anoud Al Saadi leading the charge. Additionally, Habiba Mustafa and Mariam El Degheidy topped the rankings in foil and sabre, respectively—underscoring the team’s tactical and technical dominance on the national stage.
This success was the culmination of consistent performance across the season. In April, at the UAE Fencing Federation Championship in Dubai, the team won nine medals across U11, U15, and U20 categories. In U15, Shemma Al Suwaidi earned silver in sabre, while Mahra Al Zarouni and Shamma Al Muhairi won bronze in sabre and foil. In U11, Maitha Al Marzouqi captured gold in sabre, followed by silver for Touleen Mohsen (foil) and bronze for Noora Al Ketbi (sabre).
In the U20 category, Habiba Mohamed won gold in foil, Lamar Hussein Al Nahla took silver in épée, and Afraa Al Baloushi claimed bronze in sabre.
That same month, at the Federation Championship for Seniors and U13, the team showed excellence across all three weapons. Lamar Al Nahla won gold in épée, while Afrodit Ahmad placed second. In foil, Habiba Mohamed continued her winning streak with gold, and Zainab Mousa earned bronze. Mariam El Degheidy claimed gold in sabre with a strong and steady performance.
In the senior team events, Sharjah’s épée squad—Al-Anoud Al Saadi, Afrodit Ahmad, Zainab Al Hosani, and Sheikha Al Zaabi—clinched the gold medal. The sabre team, composed of Afraa Al Baloushi, Mariam El Degheidy, and Fatima Al Baloushi, also secured gold. The foil team—Habiba Mohamed, Zainab Mousa, Shemma Al Muhairi, and Alya Al Alili—took home silver after a competitive run.
In U13 individual events, Mahra Al Zarouni and Noora Al Ketbi earned bronze medals in sabre, while Reem Al Serkal added a bronze in épée—demonstrating the growing strength of Sharjah’s junior athletes.
In May, the club continued its momentum at the Federation Championship for U13 and U15 held in Abu Dhabi. Shamma Al Suwaidi dominated the U15 sabre competition, claiming gold after a series of flawless bouts. Mahra Al Zarouni followed with silver in sabre, while Shamma Al Muhairi took bronze in foil.
In the U13 category, Mahra Al Zarouni earned silver in sabre. Mariam Al Marzouqi and Reem Al Serkal won bronzes in épée, alongside Hanan Saeed (foil) and Noora Al Ketbi (sabre).
The season concluded at the Federation Championship for Seniors, held at Zayed Bin Hamdan Hall in Abu Dhabi. Zainab Al Hosani took gold in épée, while Afrodit Ahmad and Reem Al Shamaa earned bronze. Mariam El Degheidy continued her winning streak with another gold in sabre, and Afraa Al Baloushi added a bronze. In foil, Habiba Mohamed claimed silver, and Zainab Mousa took bronze.
In the team competitions, the épée squad—Zainab Al Hosani, Al Anoud Al Saadi, Reem Al Shamaa, and Afrodit Ahmad—secured gold. The sabre team, led by Afraa Al Baloushi, Mariam El Degheidy, and Fatima Al Mulla, also took first place. The foil team of Zainab Mousa, Habiba Mohamed, Shamma Al Muhairi, and Alya Al Alili finished second.
Reflecting on the season, Technical Director & épée and foil Coach Hassan Al Zouari, stated:
“This season proved that our team has a deep, talented squad capable of maintaining top form. The players' discipline and commitment throughout the year translated into the impressive results we saw at the finish.”
Sabre coach Ibrahim Souissi praised the team's cohesion: “These accomplishments are the result of seamless collaboration between the players, coaching staff, and administrators. Our individual and team performances this season have been exceptional, and we look forward to building on this momentum in the seasons to come.”
