SWS Hosts MoE Girls’ Basketball and Volleyball Championships
As part of its mission to support women’s sports from an early age,—and driven by its belief in the importance of collaboration with key partners to advance school sports— Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) hosted the Ministry of Education Girls’ Basketball and Volleyball Championships throughout April and May 2025. The competitions were held at the indoor arena of Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, with active participation from schools across Sharjah and Ajman.
Vibrant Competitions Across Two Age Groups
The tournaments welcomed strong participation from students in age categories Cycle 2 (born 2011–2014) and Cycle 3 (born 2006–2010).
Cycle 2 basketball matches tipped off on Monday, April 21, with 12 schools and 120 students taking part. Day two featured 4 additional schools and 3 qualified teams from the first day, bringing the total number of participants to 70.
The Cycle 3 basketball competition followed on Wednesday, April 23, maintaining the same school and student participation, and concluded on Thursday with the final stage of matches.
In similarly energetic atmospheres, the volleyball championships were held for both age groups, with Cycle 2 matches played on Thursday, May 8, and Cycle 3 matches on Tuesday, May 13. Each category featured 8 schools and 96 players.
Strategic Partnership and Institutional Alignment
This hosting initiative reflects the fruitful partnership between Sharjah Women’s Sports and the Ministry of Education, which was solidified during an official visit by ministry representatives to the SWS headquarters. The meeting focused on strengthening school sports and expanding opportunities for students across various stages. The championships mark the first step in a series of SWS-led initiatives to promote sport within educational environments, focusing on high-demand games like basketball and volleyball, while providing professional, well-equipped spaces to develop talent and athletic skills.
Optimizing Infrastructure and Resources
SWS emphasized the importance of integrated collaboration with key community partners—foremost among them, the Ministry of Education—as a strategic driver of school-based championships. The initiative showcases an efficient model of utilizing SWS’ advanced sports infrastructure to support long-term athletic development across the Emirate.
Promoting Sport as a Lifestyle
This initiative reflects SWS’ ongoing efforts to elevate school sports beyond competitive play, embedding it as a holistic lifestyle that nurtures physical, mental, and social well-being. The goal is to expand participation and create inclusive spaces where girls can explore their passions and grow in a safe and empowering environment.
