6th Edition of the School Athletics Championship Boosts Competitive Spirit in the Eastern Region
In a spirited educational and athletic event hosted in Khorfakkan, Sharjah Women’s Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Sharjah Private Education Authority, organized the sixth edition of the School Athletics Championship. The two-day event saw the participation of 247 students from ten public and private schools in the Eastern Region. The preliminary rounds took place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, with 102 students advancing to the finals held on Thursday, May 1, at Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled.
Athletics with an Educational Purpose
The championship featured five core events: 60m, 150m, 300m races, long jump, and shot put. Competitions were held across three age categories: 9–10, 11–12, and 13–14 years.
This edition was launched with the aim of encouraging competitive sports engagement among Eastern Region schools, while also conducting precise anthropometric assessments to analyze body composition and build a reliable database for designing targeted training programs for school-aged girls. The initiative aligns with the Organization’s vision of promoting sport as a way of life and increasing female participation in individual sports—particularly athletics.
A Strong Sports Partnership
Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled hosted the championship with fully equipped facilities, providing an ideal setting for all participants.
Mr Louay bin Alai Al Naqbi, Vice Chairperson of Khorfakkan Club for the Disabled, expressed pride in hosting the event: "Hosting this educational and athletic event in Khorfakkan is a great honor. The strong engagement from schools and the wider community confirms that the work being done by Sharjah Women’s Sports, under the leadership of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, is creating a meaningful impact. School sports serve as our starting point for instilling discipline and self-confidence, and we need more of this collaborative spirit across all sectors of the nation."
Noteworthy Results Reflecting the Growth of School Sports
Al Ma'arifa International Private School 2 (Cycles 2 & 3) topped the medal count with 13 (4 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze), followed by Al Hijra School with 9, and Asia Bint Muzahim School with 6. Other standout performances came from Al Shifa'a Bint Abdullah, Al Shuhada, Omar bin Abi Waqas, Zayed Educational Complex, Abdulrahman Al Nasser, and Fujairah schools.
Scientific Measurements Reveal Promising Indicators
In addition to the competitions, anthropometric assessments were conducted under the supervision of the Scientific Center for Research and Sports Development. The findings showed notable potential, particularly in speed and endurance.
Jameh Aden, Athletics Expert at the Organization, stated:
“The range of physical traits observed among students points to a promising base for development. The assessments provided scientifically accurate data, allowing us to design training plans tailored to each age group and to support the systematic growth of school sports.”
A Motivating Conclusion
The event concluded with the honoring of winning schools and top three student-athletes in each category, in addition to recognizing the strategic partners whose contributions helped ensure the event’s success.
Through these field-based championships, Sharjah Women’s Sports continues to build a school sports system rooted in science—opening doors for a new generation of girls to pursue athletic excellence.
