Sharjah Government Women’s Cup Returns to Inspire a Stronger Sports Culture Among Women
With a renewed vision and growing enthusiasm, Sharjah Women’s Sports hosted the second edition of Sharjah Government Women’s Champions Cup on September 18, 2025, at Sharjah Women’s Sports Club in Al Qulayaa.
A total of 211 female employees representing 24 government entities brought the true spirit of community sports to life through competitions in basketball, shooting, and archery. The vibrant atmosphere echoed a clear message: women’s sports are now an essential part of Sharjah’s workplace culture and daily life.
Institutional Collaboration Powers the Vision
This edition was made possible through the valuable support of strategic partners. The Sharjah Tourism And Commerce Development Authority served as the Gold Sponsor, while BEEAH Group and Sharjah Cooperative Society (Sharjah Co-op) were Silver Sponsors, alongside Sharjah’s Department of Agriculture & Livestock as a key supporter—highlighting the power of inter-institutional collaboration in advancing women’s sports.
New Sports, New Energy
One of the standout additions this year was the inclusion of archery—a sport introduced in direct response to employee interest, based on a survey conducted by the Organization. The tournament was preceded by two intensive training days, allowing participants to learn, engage, and connect in a shared experience of growth.
More than a Competition
Noura Al Hamar, Head of Community Events at SWS, noted a clear leap in both participation and enthusiasm this year.“This wasn’t just an event,” she said. “It was a platform to empower women and strengthen professional ties through the lens of sports.”
Participant Aisha Al Tunaiji from the Environment and Protected Areas Authority reflected on her experience:“It was more than just a sport event. It broke the routine, recharged my energy, and gave me the chance to truly experience teamwork and belonging in a supportive professional community.”
Commitment Turns into Gold
Dedication shone through in every sport. In basketball, the team from Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah defended their title for the second year in a row, followed by University of Sharjah in second place and Sharjah Ladies Club in third.
Team member Asma Shehzad described the event as more than a quest for medals: “It was an enriching experience that helped us connect with colleagues from other entities. It built bridges beyond sport and opened doors for collaboration that serve our work and shared goals.”
In shooting, Fatima Al Shamsi from the Financial Audit Authority secured first place, followed by Farah Odeh from Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre, and Fatima Al Ali from Shurooq.
In the debut of archery, Afra Al Ketbi of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority clinched gold, while Sumaya Imam Al Deen from the Sharjah Police Science Academy and Ghaia Al Marar from Shurooq earned silver and bronze, respectively.
Across every court and range, the unifying message was clear: sports provide a space for women to connect, grow, thrive—and win.
A Closing that Reflects the Vision
At the event’s conclusion, Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sports, emphasized the broader impact of the tournament:“We give women a space to explore their capabilities beyond the workplace. We promote balance between career and personal well-being, because we believe that a physically active woman is more productive, more fulfilled, and more resilient.”
The second edition of the Sharjah Government Women’s Champions Cup carried a clear message: sports are not a luxury—they are a lifestyle. The tournament offered participants a chance to redefine their relationship with physical activity, inspiring a new culture where sports are seamlessly integrated into the rhythms of professional life.
Through this success, the SWS reaffirms the Cup as a cornerstone of its annual community agenda—empowering women, amplifying their presence, and celebrating their spirit across every field.
