Reem and Zainab… Fencing Champions Add a Technical Dimension to Their Sport Journey A unique experience in Shanghai equips them with expertise in épée weapon maintenance
In a pioneering step that underscores Sharjah Women’s Sports’ commitment to empowering its athletes on and off the piste, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club fencers Reem Al Shamma and Zainab Al Hosani took part in a specialized technical workshop on épée weapons maintenance, hosted by Fencing Star Academy in Shanghai from July 15 to August 4, 2025.
The program was designed to deepen the participants’ technical understanding of fencing equipment, with a focus on safety, preventive maintenance, and readiness for competition. Over several intensive days, the athletes engaged in both theoretical and hands-on sessions covering weapon components, diagnostic techniques, and practical repair skills using professional tools.
Reflecting on the experience, Zainab Al Hosani said: “This workshop was a valuable opportunity that enriched my sports journey. It expanded my technical knowledge and gave me a deeper understanding of the mechanisms behind fencing weapons. The skills I acquired strengthened my confidence and ability to support my team during tournaments with both athletic and technical readiness.”
For Reem Al Shamma, the training was equally transformative: “I consider this workshop an exceptional experience. It opened new horizons for me in understanding the fine details of weapon maintenance. The knowledge we gained will directly enhance our preparedness in championships, giving us greater confidence to handle unexpected challenges and reinforcing our competitive presence on the piste.”
By investing in such specialized programs, SWS reaffirms its vision of equipping its athletes not only with world-class training and physical conditioning but also with complementary skills that elevate their overall readiness and empower them to excel in every aspect of their sport careers.
Beyond their athletic achievements, Reem Al Shamma serves as a Corporate Support Administrator and Store Officer at the SWS, while Zainab Al Hosani works as a Sports Facilities Operations Executive. Their dual roles highlight the Organization’s commitment to investing in women who bring together technical, administrative, and athletic expertise. This approach reinforces Sharjah Women’s Sports’ vision of cultivating well-rounded sports leaders capable of advancing women’s sports on every front.
