SWS Signs MoU with the UoS’s Dental Hospital to Advance Oral Health Of Its Athletes
As part of its ongoing commitment to fostering a holistic sports environment that places athletes’ health at the heart of its mission, Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Sharjah on September 4, represented by its University Dental Hospital.
This collaboration reflects the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SWS, who has consistently emphasized the importance of institutional synergy and the strategic use of Sharjah’s resources to achieve common goals. The partnership specifically targets oral and dental health—a vital component of performance, confidence, and overall quality of life for athletes.
The MoU opens the door to an array of specialized preventive and treatment services, ranging from early detection, treatment, and awareness campaigns, to assigning an in-house dentist to SWS facilities. The agreement also includes mobile dental clinics during sport events, the production of custom-made mouthguards in collaboration with certified laboratories, and the development of individualized treatment plans based on comprehensive clinical assessments.
Beyond treatment, the cooperation extends to applied research in areas such as temporomandibular joint disorders, gum disease, and sports-related oral injuries. These scientific initiatives will provide SWS with a valuable knowledge base to strengthen athletic performance and reinforce long-term preventive programs.
His Excellency Professor Dr. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, expressed his pride in signing the MoU with SWS. He emphasized the University’s openness to national collaborations that serve the community and reinforce Sharjah’s role as a hub for education, sports, and culture. He added that this partnership will pave the way for impactful initiatives that improve athletes’ health, while looking forward to expanding collaboration across other colleges and disciplines—aligned with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, and the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah.
Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of Sharjah Women’s Sports, commented:"This memorandum marks a new milestone in our journey to build an integrated health–academic system. It introduces specialized preventive and treatment services while opening new avenues for research and awareness that will strengthen athletes’ readiness and sustain their performance. Investing in oral and dental health is, in essence, an investment in athletes’ confidence and their ability to represent the UAE with distinction at local and international arenas."
By formalizing this agreement, SWS reinforces an institutional framework that guarantees continuity in screening, treatment, awareness, and research, further cementing its role as a driving force in women’s sports in Sharjah and enabling female athletes to reach new levels of achievement.
