SWS Signs Strategic Agreement with UHS to Enhance Medical Care and Sports Rehabilitation
In a significant step underscoring its commitment to advancing healthcare for female athletes, Sharjah Women’s Sports (SWS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with University Hospital Sharjah (UHS) on September 2. The agreement sets the stage for comprehensive medical services, advanced treatment and rehabilitation programs, and awareness initiatives designed to support athletic performance in line with international best practices.
The partnership establishes a clear framework for medical care that includes routine health screenings, full physical assessments to determine readiness for competition, and access to specialized services in cardiology, orthopedics, gynecology, ophthalmology, and more. Licensed medical professionals will provide services on carefully scheduled rotations that ensure efficiency and privacy for athletes, while treatment plans will be continuously updated through coordinated protocols.
Beyond clinical services, the collaboration extends to training and capacity building. The agreement includes specialized programs for medical and technical staff, such as Basic and Advanced Life Support courses with internationally recognized certifications. It also features workshops and awareness sessions—delivered both in person and virtually—that aim to foster a culture of prevention and enhance safety both on and off the field.
Dr. Khalifa Mohammed Ibrahim Al Samaan Al Nuaimi, Executive Director and Board Member of UHS, stated:"This partnership with SWS reflects our ongoing role in strengthening both the healthcare and sports sectors in the Emirate. We are committed to leveraging our expertise and resources to provide the highest standards of care for athletes, covering routine screenings, therapeutic services, and specialized medical training programs that contribute to health, safety, and peak performance."
Her Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice Chairperson of SWS, added:"This agreement reflects our dedication to the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, who emphasizes the importance of institutional collaboration and maximizing available resources across the Emirate to achieve shared goals. Partnering with UHS provides an integrated medical framework that responds quickly to athletes’ needs, enhances their safety, and represents a direct investment in their ability to achieve and proudly represent the UAE in sport arenas."
The agreement also paves the way for stronger institutional collaboration by developing advanced preventive and therapeutic protocols and building accurate health databases to monitor key indicators and assess athletic performance scientifically. It reinforces SWS’s commitment to combining advanced clinical care with continuous training and health awareness, transforming this partnership into a cornerstone of a holistic sports ecosystem that prioritizes prevention and supports the long-term success of female athletes.
