SWSC Fencers Open the 2025-2026 Season with Intensive Preparations and Early Success
The fencing team at Sharjah Women’s Sports Club kicked off the 2025–2026 season with a series of high-level training camps that placed the athletes in a highly competitive environment and sharpened both their technical and mental readiness.
In August, Sharjah Women’s Sports Olympic Center hosted International Fencing Camp (épée) featuring Egyptian Olympic champion Mohamed Elsayed and U20 World Champion Mahmoud Elsayed, alongside eight members of Egypt’s national épée team. The camp provided the Club’s athletes with invaluable opportunities to train directly with world-class fencers, gaining insights not only into match strategy but also into the daily routines of professional athletes.
On the international stage, the team traveled to Greece for a 7-day training camp in late August, which brought together national squads from many countries including Turkey, India, Egypt, Serbia, and Greece. The intensity of this schedule exposed the athletes to a wide variety of fencing styles, strengthening their adaptability and resilience while also boosting both their physical endurance and mental agility.
The impact of these preparations was evident in the UAE Fencing Cup, held on September 27–28 at Mazhar Sports Hall in Dubai, where the Club’s fencers stood out across all age categories and weapons, collecting an impressive 21 medals.
In the épée, Jouri Al Ali claimed silver in the U14 category, followed by bronze for Reem Omar Al Serkal, while Azba Abbas clinched gold and Sheikha Al Ansari took silver in the U10 category.
Shimaa Al Jaz added a silver medal in U12, with Lamar Al Nahla and Toulin Bdeir securing bronze in U20—demonstrating the breadth of the Club’s épée team talents.
In the foil, Maya Diab earned silver in U14, Fatima Al Blooshi took bronze in U10, and Al Reem Al Shamsi together with Toulin Mohsen won bronze in U12, confirming the promise of the Club’s younger fencers.
In the sabre, Habiba Al Hammadi secured silver in U10, while Sara Thabet and Latifa Al Ali claimed bronze.
Meitha Al Marzouqi added bronze in U14, and Noura Al Ketbi captured silver in U12, with Fatima Al Hammadi and Alia Al Shareef adding two more bronzes. In the U20 category, Liyan Thabet took silver, while Shamma Al Suwaidi and Al Anoud Al Falasi contributed bronzes, underlining the Club’s depth in sabre as well.
With a total haul of 21 medals—one gold, seven silvers, and thirteen bronzes—the team firmly established itself as one of the top national clubs from the very first competition of the season.
Reflecting on the results, Coach Ibrahim Souissi, head of the sabre division at Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, said:“This achievement would not have been possible without careful planning and the quality of our training camps, which significantly enhanced the athletes’ readiness. The UAE Cup was a powerful start to the season. Our fencers demonstrated outstanding commitment, tackling tough bouts with courage and focus, while team spirit and tactical discipline were evident across all categories. This well-rounded medal tally reflects the hard work invested in training and gives us even greater motivation to pursue broader success in the competitions ahead.”
Alyazia Al Suwaidi, Head of Technical Planning and Monitoring Unit at the Sharjah Women’s Sports, highlighted that five of the medal-winning athletes in this championship came through the Organization’s Sports Incubators project, delivered in partnership with Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators, represented by Sharjah Children’s Centers.
She said:” The Sports Incubators program has become a vital platform for nurturing the physical and technical growth of young girls from their earliest stages, preparing them to transition seamlessly into official club teams. Our vision is for the incubators to act as a constant feeder system for clubs, providing a structured pathway that begins with grassroots training and develops through consistent coaching and competition. The recent achievements in fencing are a clear reflection of this integrated approach and encourage us to double our efforts in the coming stages."
With this momentum, the fencing team enters the new season with confidence and ambition, supported by a comprehensive preparation program—both locally and internationally—and a wide base of athletes balancing experience and youthful drive. The promising start reflects the Club’s ongoing role as a leading platform in advancing women’s sports in the UAE.
