SWSC Clinches 13 Medals at the UAE Fencing Cup
Sharjah Women’s Sports Club (SWSC) delivered a stellar performance at the UAE Fencing Cup, held at Al Mazhar Sports Hall in Dubai. Over three days of intense competition, the club’s athletes showcased remarkable skill and determination, securing a total of 13 medals across various categories. Their achievements reflect not only their technical progress but also their growing ability to compete at an elite level.
The tournament began on Friday, February 7, 2025, with strong performances in the Under-11 and Under-20 categories. Meitha Al Marzouqi dominated the saber event, claiming the gold medal, while Noora Al Ketbi followed closely, securing the silver medal. In the Under-20 saber category, Afra Al Baloushi delivered an impressive display, earning silver, while Habiba Mohammed also reached the podium, securing silver in the foil event.
On Saturday, February 8, 2025, the club’s fencers continued their impressive form in the Under-13 and Under-17 competitions. Mahra Al Zarouni exhibited great composure and skill, earning a bronze medal in the Under-13 saber, while Hanan Saeed replicated that success in the foil category, adding another bronze medal to the team’s tally. The Under-17 category witnessed a remarkable performance from Shamma Al Suwaidi, who advanced to the final after a series of intense bouts, ultimately securing the silver medal in saber after a hard-fought match.
The final day of competition, Sunday, February 9, 2025, brought even greater success in the Under-15 and senior categories. Shamma Al Suwaidi returned to the top of the podium, delivering a commanding performance to win the gold medal in the Under-15 saber event. Mahra Al Zarouni, once again demonstrating her consistency, added a bronze medal to her achievements. In the senior category, Al Anoud Al Saadi emerged victorious in the épée event, clinching the gold medal, while Zainab Al Hosani finished as runner-up, earning silver. The success continued with Habiba Mohammed, who delivered a strong performance in the foil event, securing another silver medal. Maryam Al Daghidi further strengthened the club’s medal tally, taking silver in the saber event, capping off an impressive campaign for SWSC.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Hassan Al Zouari, the technical director of fencing at SWSC, expressed his pride in the athletes’ achievements. He emphasized that their results were a testament to their rigorous training, dedication, and unwavering competitive spirit. He also highlighted the significance of competing against athletes from various nationalities and clubs, noting that such high-level competition provided valuable experience and exposure to diverse playing styles, ultimately contributing to their growth as elite fencers.
The club’s success in the UAE Fencing Cup underscores its continuous development of its athletes, driven by structured training programs and expert coaching. These results serve as a powerful motivation to further enhance the presence of fencing in Sharjah and solidify the club’s role in advancing women’s sports at both national and international levels.
